The steel strap fits 18cm cuffs and has the clasp code X dating it to 1999. We purchased this model from an Austrian collector who worked as a doctor in Syria before the war started and he needed to emigrate with his family to Austria. The watch was initially delivered to “Elangy Corp” according to the papers. The papers also have the Rolex watermark which is only visible if held against the sun and they smell old, so they are guaranteed authentic. The watch is also accompanied by a Rolex box and its original papers with of course matching numbers with the watch itself. The reference number 16550 of the caseback and the reference number between the lugs match, which is always a good sign. We dont know if the watch was already ordered engraved by the Assad regime at Rolex or if the watch was delivered plain and thereafter hand engraved by the Assad regime. Its hand engraved and the quality of the execution is very high - which indicates that the engraving is not a 'cheap fake'. The outside of the caseback depicts the symbol of the Assad regime of Syria. The bezel has some signs of wear, the black is broken out at some numbers, probably caused by dayheat/nightcold temperature changes in the middle east where the watch was originally delivered to. The black dial is in very good condition. The fat lugs indicate that the case has never been polished. The watch case has slight signs of wear, micro swirls and some light scratches. The watch is in good condition, professionally serviced in 06/2022 by our inhouse watchmaker partner.

The uncommon semi-spherical hour markers that are placed slightly toward the center provide subtle yet effective accents to the dial. In addition, the svelte bezel proportion makes the dial appear a lot larger than its actual size. It features an oversized case at 37mm, which is decidedly large for its era. The equally minimalist dial design is adorned with a set of blued steel feuille hands as well as a center-seconds hand it also developed a featherlight patina to the overall dial surface.
